Wedding Decorations 101

Article by Bobbie Hamilton

There’s no question about the fact that a wedding will always be a festive event. This is one perfect occasion to get the best decors and ornaments that the couple can get their hands on. These wedding decorations may be borrowed, rented or purchased.

The most important thing that you must know in this particular kind of decoration is the look that you’re going for. Do you want something grandiose and expensive? Do you prefer something simple and elegant? What colors do you want to see on your wedding day? What elements are appropriate for your event? If you know exactly what you want to see, the decorations and designs will not be much of a hassle to create.

Here are some of the basic elements used in a wedding that you should take a look at:

• Lighting

Illuminating the whole place properly is a part of the decorations. The lighting must not be too high or not too low. Too much lighting may end up ruining the pictures to be taken. It will also take away the dreamy wedding feel and create a harsh environment for the eyes of the couple and the guests. On the other hand, too low lighting may produce poorly lighted and blurry pictures. It must be just right to set the romantic and solemn mood in a wedding ceremony.

• Ribbons and fabric

Adding to the dreamy and romantic feel of the wedding are the ribbons and fabric. Ribbons are silky and colorful strands that will add color and texture to the venue. Fabrics used in wedding decorations usually look like larger versions of ribbons. There are also some fabrics used which are light and silky. The flowing appearance adds the much sought romance and elegance.

• Flowers

Flowers are an indispensable decoration in a wedding. These aromatic and beautiful creations of Mother Nature add a lot of things in a wedding such as color and fragrance. Since flowers symbolize a lot of things. It will also add a level of sincerity and purity.

• Fruits

Believe it or not, fruits are also used as decorations in a wedding. Colorful and fragrant fruits such as apples, oranges, pears and grapes are added to flowers for a refreshing look. These decorations are best used in weddings to be held in summer and spring where vibrant colors are used.

• Fixtures

Some weddings have a high budget and the couple can afford to add a fixture in their wedding. The common fixture found in weddings is ice sculptures. Other fixtures added in the reception are chocolate fountains and champagne glass towers.

Design your wedding venue and reception the way you want it. All you have to do is use your creativity and imagination when creating your wedding decorations.

To your beautiful wedding!

Bridesmaids 101: Finding Your Wedding Party

Article by Linwright Design

Traditionally, the bridal wedding party consisted of close friends and family that would help the bride and groom prepare for the big day – and keep them calm on the big day! However choosing a honor attendee and bridesmaids for your Arizona wedding can be a stressful ordeal for many brides. How do you decide who makes the cut? Once you’ve decided who to ask, how do you ask?

If you’re sticking to tradition, the honor attendee (whether she is a maid or matron) will host the bridal shower and oversee the bride’s preparations on the wedding day. The bridesmaids will assist the bride in wedding planning and preparations – ranging from helping her pick out her bridal gown to picking up the fancy chandelier she ordered but doesn’t have the time to go get. A modern twist can be to simply honor a great friendship with the title of honor attendee or bridesmaid.

So who should you choose? The short answer is simple: a close friend or family member that means a lot to you. The long answer is a close friend or family member that means a lot to you who is also reliable, calm, and empathetic. Suzy might be your best friend of twenty years, but if she’s never made it to anything on time, she may not be the best choice for wedding responsibilities. Cousin Abby who loves you, but isn’t the biggest fan of marrying before a particular age might not be the best choice simply because you want a wedding party who is excited to celebrate your love. Nor is Mary who panics at the thought of any schedule running of course. As any wedding planner will tell you, all wedding schedules get changed even a little. A bridesmaid who can stay calm under pressure is ideal – or else there will be a panicked bridesmaid and bride!

How do you ask your wedding party to be a part of your special Arizona wedding ceremony? The basic way is just to simply ask, telling your friend that you’d truly appreciate them being a part of your celebration. An extra plus is that you can tell them why. More often now, brides are finding a way to ask their bridesmaids in unique and memorable ways that show how grateful they would be for the offer to be accepted.

There are many different ways to ask your friends and family to be part of your wedding party. If you are far away from them, you can send a specialized card. Many wedding companies make wedding party cards, and they can often be personalized in the colors of your wedding. On the other hand, if your friends and family are near, consider taking them out for brunch or dinner one by one. It will give you time to connect with them, inform them about any wedding choices you have already made, and address any questions they may have. Bridesmaids who have concerns about time or budget will love the personalized one on one time to let you know up front what they can and cannot do. For groups of friends that may not already know each other, a group meal could be a great way to both ask your friends and family to be a part of your wedding party and to introduce everyone. Make sure to still give everyone some individual attention as so they can discuss any concerns.

A currently popular way to ask is to send individual boxes or bags to each member with a card asking them to be in your wedding party. This could take the place of the traditional gift, but doesn’t have to. Boxes can range from including special personal gifts that suit each member’s personality to a themed box that gives details about your wedding. For example, if you are have a formal and elegant beach wedding, you could include a sand-dollar to represent the beach, gourmet chocolate to represent it being an elegant affair, and a light scarf or wrap in the colors of your wedding.

However you decide to ask your friends and family to have a special part in your wedding and be in your wedding party, let it reflect both your and your wedding. This is to be one of the most important days in your life – be sure to surround yourself with people who love the both of you, and truly want to be a part of this special day.

“Couture Wedding Planning Tip #5 :: Keeping It and Yourself Together…Cookie Recipes 101- Organize the Ingredient List”

Article by Lia Moore

Planning your wedding is often a very stressful time for brides, their families and sometimes their fiancés. It does NOT need to be this way. STOP and BREATH! Planning your wedding can be as easy as pie as long as you’re organized! Just as you need a recipe before you start baking, before you can really start planning, you need to get organized, very organized!

Every Couture wedding has a detailed outline for the overall plan ahead. You would never dream of making Martha’s Chocolate Chip Cookies without gathering the key ingredients and getting organized is just as essential.

Here are a few things that I suggest:

Bridal Orgazined Survival System 1. Determine your B.O.S.S. (Bridal Organized Survival System)

* Whether you’re a “Martha” girl, a Knottie, Wedding Wire, Tech Savvy, or Do-It-Yourself, make your own binder bride, keeping it together is essential to designing your Couture wedding. It’s important to use what works for your personality and time and to make sure it’s functional.

* Keep copies of all contracts and correspondence with vendors in your wedding file.

* So much communication with vendors is done via email. So it is extremely important that your keep track of ALL email correspondence to and from vendors. I always recommendations creating a folder to keep ALL email, sent and received, between you and vendors. You might even think about creating a separate email account to track all wedding related correspondence and to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle of your personal email. These are a couple ways we keep ourselves AND our brides organized too.

2. The (dreaded) Guest List

* I know, I know, I can hear it from here. The dreaded guest list is near the bottom of your To Do List, but it is one of the most CRITICAL elements to ensure your spectacular wedding and must be tackled ASAP! Assembling all the guests’ addresses and typing them up will ensure your sanity when it comes to ordering and sending out save-the-dates not to mention invitations. It will also give you a realistic look at your expected guest count and allow for time to make any necessary changes. (BEFORE crunch time.)

3. Get the Money Straight

* Again, crunching numbers is not a fabulous part of wedding planning; however it is a necessary one. We use a very detailed and customized budget planner for clients to really look at where the wedding money will go and where we might make changes. Whether your budget is ,000, ,000 or 0,000, a budget is needed to give you direction in your planning process (and no matter what, it’s never enough).

4. Bridal Task ListStressed Out Bride

* There are gazillions of planner books and magazines that offer good planning guidelines for when you should accomplish wedding tasks. While we create a custom planner for our brides, having some point of reference is a really good place to start.

* DON’T PANIC if it suggests you start 24 months in advance if your wedding is 8 months way. The standard planner is exactly that, a standard. This is your Couture wedding, which means it can be tailored to suit YOUR engagement.

Your Couture Bride Assignment:

Start with the basics and no one get’s hurt!!! Take time today to sit down and begin your guest list or hash through your budget. There are many organizational tools, both online and in the bookstores to get you on the right track. Remember, budget suggestions from online planners and books are just that…suggestions. If you don’t want to fork over 30% of your budget for flowers and decor, DON’T. You can choose to place your money where you want to, to get the dream wedding you’ve always envisioned.
