Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Cookies: Healthy Dessert Recipes Without a Side of Guilt!

Article by Isabel De Los Rios

If you’ve tasted healthy dessert recipes and have decided you would rather eat the bottom of your shoe, then this article is for you! It is true that when you are hoping to lose some weight, sugar is the first substance that needs to go.

Alcohol is the second. So that rum cake you have your eyes on? Well, unfortunately it is a double no-no.

But just because you shouldn’t eat full-fat, full-sugar dessert on a regular basis, that doesn’t mean that you can’t doctor up a few staples in order to satiate that sweet tooth without stretching out that waistline or compromising taste.

Some of us are so conditioned to super sweet desserts that it may take some detoxifying to truly appreciate what a healthy dessert is. But don’t let that get in the way of developing a beautiful relationship with healthy dessert.

This all begins with a fundamental understanding of what a truly healthy diet is all about. While sacrifice- those Little Debbie’s and Ho-Ho’s need the heave-ho- is a trademark of a healthy lifestyle, that sacrifice doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom.

Two Reasons that Healthy Desserts Are Worth the Sacrifice of Sugar for your Diet Program

The Diet Solution Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Cookies are the only two reasons you need to discover that giving up the mounds of sugar for a more svelte self is not a sacrifice at all! Here are some tips when it comes to making healthy dessert.

Switch out white flour for coconut flour. Swap sugar for raw honey or Stevia. These two simple changes can make an otherwise dangerous dessert as little slice of heaven for your mouth and your thighs.

Print this recipe; you are going to want to whip it up time and time again!

Simply Strawberry Shortcake

Tricks of the Sugar Trade: How to Make Cookies for a Healthy Eating Plan

Here is an easy recipe for chocolate cookies. Notice the simple switch-outs that make this cookie different from your average Pilsbury kind.

Coconut flour is used again, and instead of butter you can also use coconut oil. It will give it a nuttier flavor that is rich and creamy. Cocoa powder instead of milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate: less sugar and all-natural!

Coconut Flour Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients

¼ C. sifted coconut flour

¼ C. butter or virgin coconut oil

1/3 C. cocoa powder

3 eggs (organic)

1/8 C Baking Stevia

¼ TSP Celtic Sea Salt

¼ TSP vanilla

Put a saucepan over low heat to melt butter and then stir in cocoa powder. Remove from heat and let cool. In a bowl, combine organic eggs, Baking Stevia, Celtic Sea Salt and vanilla; stir in cocoa mixture.

Whisk coconut flour into batter until lumps are gone. Rest the batter for 4 to 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken. Drop spoonfuls of batter on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350F Degree, 175 Celsius for 14 minutes. Makes16 cookies.

“Couture Wedding Planning Tip #5 :: Keeping It and Yourself Together…Cookie Recipes 101- Organize the Ingredient List”

Article by Lia Moore

Planning your wedding is often a very stressful time for brides, their families and sometimes their fiancés. It does NOT need to be this way. STOP and BREATH! Planning your wedding can be as easy as pie as long as you’re organized! Just as you need a recipe before you start baking, before you can really start planning, you need to get organized, very organized!

Every Couture wedding has a detailed outline for the overall plan ahead. You would never dream of making Martha’s Chocolate Chip Cookies without gathering the key ingredients and getting organized is just as essential.

Here are a few things that I suggest:

Bridal Orgazined Survival System 1. Determine your B.O.S.S. (Bridal Organized Survival System)

* Whether you’re a “Martha” girl, a Knottie, Wedding Wire, Tech Savvy, or Do-It-Yourself, make your own binder bride, keeping it together is essential to designing your Couture wedding. It’s important to use what works for your personality and time and to make sure it’s functional.

* Keep copies of all contracts and correspondence with vendors in your wedding file.

* So much communication with vendors is done via email. So it is extremely important that your keep track of ALL email correspondence to and from vendors. I always recommendations creating a folder to keep ALL email, sent and received, between you and vendors. You might even think about creating a separate email account to track all wedding related correspondence and to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle of your personal email. These are a couple ways we keep ourselves AND our brides organized too.

2. The (dreaded) Guest List

* I know, I know, I can hear it from here. The dreaded guest list is near the bottom of your To Do List, but it is one of the most CRITICAL elements to ensure your spectacular wedding and must be tackled ASAP! Assembling all the guests’ addresses and typing them up will ensure your sanity when it comes to ordering and sending out save-the-dates not to mention invitations. It will also give you a realistic look at your expected guest count and allow for time to make any necessary changes. (BEFORE crunch time.)

3. Get the Money Straight

* Again, crunching numbers is not a fabulous part of wedding planning; however it is a necessary one. We use a very detailed and customized budget planner for clients to really look at where the wedding money will go and where we might make changes. Whether your budget is ,000, ,000 or 0,000, a budget is needed to give you direction in your planning process (and no matter what, it’s never enough).

4. Bridal Task ListStressed Out Bride

* There are gazillions of planner books and magazines that offer good planning guidelines for when you should accomplish wedding tasks. While we create a custom planner for our brides, having some point of reference is a really good place to start.

* DON’T PANIC if it suggests you start 24 months in advance if your wedding is 8 months way. The standard planner is exactly that, a standard. This is your Couture wedding, which means it can be tailored to suit YOUR engagement.

Your Couture Bride Assignment:

Start with the basics and no one get’s hurt!!! Take time today to sit down and begin your guest list or hash through your budget. There are many organizational tools, both online and in the bookstores to get you on the right track. Remember, budget suggestions from online planners and books are just that…suggestions. If you don’t want to fork over 30% of your budget for flowers and decor, DON’T. You can choose to place your money where you want to, to get the dream wedding you’ve always envisioned.
